Pain relief during labor and delivery?

I was looking online for some effective plain relief methods during labor and delivery. I am familiar with, although never used (first time Mom here) an epidural, spinal block, and other pain medications, but what can you tell me about a TENS machine? Has anyone experienced it before? I am still debating about my options, I know technically natural child birth is the way to go, good for mom and the baby, but I am leaning towards an epidural. My boyfriend insists the epidural is “cheating labor”, and thinks I should go natural. What kind of labor and delivery did you have? Did you have pain relief, if so what kind, was it effective?

Chosen Answer:

I’ve never used a tens machine, but I have had epidurals with all of my previous labors. Believe me, it can be a godsend. Your boyfriend needs to check his attitude at the door. Cheating labor? PUHLEEZE!! It is so much easier for him to say than it is for you to do. Besides, we all know that if men were the ones that had to go through labor and delivery, population growth would come to a standstill! There’s nothing wrong with going into labor with the plan to do it naturally (that’s my plan this time around), but keep yourself open to all of your options when it comes to pain relief. You don’t know ahead of time what YOUR experience will be like. Best of luck!
